World's Largest Tree Covers 18,918 Square Meters Of Land!

Believe It Or Not Its True!

This two hundred and fifty years old is worlds largest tree spread along 18,918 square meters of land (3.5 acres). From a distance, the tree has the appearance of a forest, but what appear to be individual trees are actually aerial roots- around 3,600 of them.

This is a satellite view of the tree.

It is The Great Banyan Tree in the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden near Kolkata (Calcutta) India, making it the widest tree in the world.

The Great Banyan tree is over 250 years old, and its date of birth is doubtful. there is no clear history of the tree as to the time of planting etc. but it is mentioned in many travel books of the nineteenth century as a very spectacular element. With its large number of aerial roots, which grow from the branches and run vertically to the ground and looks like is has so many trunks, The Great Banyan looks more like a forest than an individual tree.

A 330 meter long road was built around its circumference, but the tree continues to spread beyond it. The present crown of the tree has a circumference of 486 m. and the highest branch rises to 24.5 m; it has at present 3772 aerial roots reaching down to the ground as a prop root.

It survived two great cyclones in 1864 and 1867, when some of its main branches were broken. After two cyclones which led to a fungal attack, the tree’s main 15.7-meter-wide (51-foot) trunk had to be removed. Fortunately, the "clonal colony" of tree itself remains healthy.A monument has been erected to the dead trunk, but is hardly accessible to visitors, who only have access to the perimeter of the tree.

Suppose we have million such trees, What a better wish for our Mother Earth. What do you think? Please share your thoughts.

  1. Very Nice, Heaven on earth. There is an Avocado tree in the shared rented house where I live and in the summer when it is 30 degrees C + it is at least 5-10 degrees cooler under it. Unfortunately the rest of the "Garden" / back "Yard" is concrete. Concrete is a cancer, it is dead it is cold and hard and thermal heat store in summer, the things around it die from the radiant heat. It is good for nothing other than to look dirty when leaves fall on it where it wouldn't if there was no concrete. where the leaves are trash on concrete but artificial dead things have a home. human psychology is imprinted with a dangerous mindset through marketing and business. It is killing everyone.
